Witnessing to government officials...

No one knew that eating at a place well known in the USA would cause so much heartache.  The teams from the US were so excited to see American food in Russia, that Subway sandwiches were eaten up so fast, out of fear that they might grow legs and run!

That night more than half fell ill from that joy of eating food that was too familiar for the taste buds.  Eleven out of the nineteen were hospitalized throughout the next ten hours.

Each one can relay the feelings that went through their heads as they sat at the hospital instead of the orphanage where babies, kids and teens were waiting for them to come back as promised.

God had another plan for these nineteen students from California.  Throughout the next week we were witnesses to numerous hospital and government officials coming to visit the team to find the culprit in the food poisoning.  As usual, we as people look in the wrong places and try to place blame on the innocent; just as the government official did do.

When the teams were getting ready to come to Russia, no one knew that they would be sharing about God to a group of people in Russia who are considered unreachable to the Gospel.  Through this whole experience we shared about God, the purpose of the teams' visit to Russia and the need to help orphans in this country.

God had bigger plans for these nineteen women and men of God; a plan that was so much bigger than anything we could have planned on our own.

Thank you to the teams from California Baptist University.  Thank you for being warriors for God's army.  Your courageousness has shown the glory of God to many people in Russia.

Nineteen students from California Baptist University

Summer is here and you are excited to see what adventures this warm weather will bring.

But before summer started, across the Atlantic Ocean, in Russia, almost two hundred children and teens have experienced what it means to be loved and accepted unconditionally!

Nineteen students from California Baptist University decided to spend part of their summer in Russia, loving and caring those who have no one.  Each one became an older brother and sister to kids and teens that do not have any family.

The children saw a different life through the eyes of young missionaries; a life that does not involve drinking, smoking, prostitution, crime and drugs.  Teens saw a way to break the horrific cycle of their parents.

A Christ like example was exemplified through the teams, as they shared stories, did colorful crafts and fun games with the kids and teens.

Testimonies

"My experience was life-changing. I was opened to a world that is ignored, even by it's own people. I grew closer to God and my faith was strengthened. I was challenged to stop living for myself and live for the Kingdom. Because of Sunergos, my attitude towards ministry has changed completely. Serving alongside Sunergos was the best thing I have done to help shape my future outlook on ministry."

"I learned that I am a lot more flexible than I thought I was and that I need to spend much more time in prayer. I learned that being a part of God’s toolbox means playing many different roles. I learned I am not as dependable on the comforts of home as I thought I was."

"Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be God’s arms to the babies at the orphanage."

"I never thought that I would go through the things I went through. God revealed so much to me while I was there. I learned to be so much more selfless. God stretched me in ways that I never thought possible. It was an amazing experience."

"When I think of the experience to Russia, the first thing that I think about is how faithful God is and it really rings true that his ways are not our ways. His faithfulness was evident throughout the whole trip in which he always provided for us and protected us. I think about how so often we plan and plan, but in the end, God’s plans prevail and those are the plans that matter the most. Those plans bring the greatest glory to Him and even if they don’t make sense to us, God has it all under control and we can rest in that."

"When you step out of your comfort zone for God, He teaches you all sorts of new things. The food-poisoning incident helped me learn that He is not understandable, but He works things out for His glory.  Working in the transit center and seeing pictures from the baby orphanage showed me a world outside of the protective bubble of America. It showed me that things go on in other countries that most Americans do not even know about, or take the time to care about. It gave me a more global perspective."

"This trip strengthened my desire to adopt or be a foster mother... I learned that I can always trust God, even when things aren’t understandable."

"My overall experience was great…I am ready to come back! St. Petersburg is a very beautiful and unique city, and the people truly need to love of the Lord. Sunergos is a great organization that really has a heart for the kids of Russia, and I love the experiences that they provided for me."

"I grew tremendously in my walk with Christ in our short three weeks. I learned about His faithfulness and how His plan is bigger than my own. He can use any situation for His glory. He doesn’t need me; I am privileged that He would use me."

"While working with these HIV babies, it blew me away that the nurses were shocked we wanted to volunteer to love on these children. These babies were beautiful and perfect. I was touched by their smiles and little hands that would eagerly wrap around mine. All they wanted was to be held and touched. They were completely different children when being loved on. I cannot forget their smiles."

"Overall my experience was beyond what words can describe. Tanya immediately made us feel comfortable and continually built us up with words of encouragement. I was very impressed with the poise and level head Tanya held the entire trip despite the bumps in the road we faced. Not once did I lose confidence in her or in Sunergos that we would not be taken care of. It was clear that God was leading this trip the entire time...

I hope to return to St. Petersburg someday soon to work with orphaned children again and have no doubt that Sunergos will be the first place I look to do so. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone and everyone. "

"I allowed myself to be broken over the orphans in Russia and I have a newfound love for wanting to change their situation. Before working with Sunergos, I viewed orphans and poverty through my eyes, now I view them through God's."
