It’s like Family Camp!
August 2009
A family camp in St Petersburg, Russia… that is what the Antrim Family called their mission trip this summer! Instead of going on a regular vacation, this family decided to come and hold babies in an orphanage and play with children who never had a loving family.
The Antrim family brought toys, clothes and their upbeat spirits to Sunergos ministry at two different orphanages. Their family spirit was noticed by all the staff and felt by children and teens at both orphanages. Seeing the interaction between parents and children was refreshing to watch.
Hugs, kisses, smiles and joy was passed freely from each one, as they grew to love these Russian orphans. And for at least two weeks, these Russian orphans, knew what it is like to be a part of a loving family.
This is the first time that Sunergos hosted a family team. The experience was rewarding for both sides. Thank you the Antrim Family for taking your vacation with Russian orphans!
Two colleagues meet across the ocean...
July 2009
Dr. Slava never thought that a colleague from Canada would come to meet the children he takes care of in Russia. This summer, two pediatricians, working on two different continents, met and shared their work experience working with babies.
Dr. Slava works at a St. Petersburg HIV Baby Orphanage, specializing with HIV children, the other, Dr. Anne Antrim, works in Vancouver, Canada, specializing in premature babies.
When they met, no translator was needed, as they shared their similarities as pediatricians. Realizing that across the oceans, some things are similar, yet others are starkly different.
So many things could be done for these babies, if better medicine and more interaction. But the Russian government only gives towards the necessities which are needed for a baby to survive, not to flourish.
Each year Sunergos International aids this HIV Baby Orphanage in things that are needed for these children to grow and flourish; have more sunshine in their dark lives.
